In the summer of 2009 we had one of our best vacations – Italy. We booked through Expedia our hotels in Rome for 5 days, then La Spezia (close to Cinque Terre) for another 5 days and finally Florence for the last 4 days. They were all 4 star hotels for which we got a pretty good deal, nice breakfast and very nice and comfortable rooms. We took into account staying in hostels and other hotels (less stars), but coming to just doing the calculations at the end of the day we were only spending about 10 eur additionally if we were to stay at the 4-star hotels for which we got the deals rather than the hostels. So, normally we went for the first choice.
It was wonderful. We had our already usual rendez-vous on the Rome airport (as I am flying from Copenhagen and he was flying from Bucharest) and then our different direction departure in Florence (me flying back to Cph and him flying back to Bucharest). Fortunately (or unfortunately?) all these rendez-vous will end this summer with our wedding when one of us will have to move.
Back to the post: Cinque Terre is so amazing. It’s a UNESCO world heritage and comprised in the Cinque Terre National Park. Everything there is untouched, unmodernized and the 5 villages are so colorful and bright. They are all on the coastline of the Italian Riviera on hills overseeing directly the Mediterranean sea. The 5 villages are: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernassa and Monte Rosso. All of them are interconnected through walking trails (which of course we walked through our stay there) and a regional train which mostly runs through tunnels. We ate at some very nice and cozy restaurants which serve very good and fresh seafood. We love their anchovies. Wine is also very good as there are plenty of vineyards on the hills surrounding the villages.
Here are some of our pictures.
Us on the trails walks between the villages.

Via del Amore which connects Riomaggiore and Manarola.

I am halting here this post and I will continue the story in a next one.
Glam glam!
